The GreenMan… aka Jack o’ the Green, Jack o’ the Wood, Father Nature, and many others… predates written history so the original artists’ intent will never be known for sure. Images of the leaf-faced GreenMan appear throughout history, and are considered to be of pagan origin… the god of the forest…. They can be found in Celtic and European History, were reluctantly or unwittingly incorporated into medieval Christian churches, and have become better known recently as we humans gain the maturity to realize that environmental issues are of great importance.
The Greenman represents the strength of nature, Nature’s Cycles of birth, growth, death and rebirth. He represents the lushness of a forest and all that coexist there. He appears most often in the spring when all living things ‘come back to life’. His image tells us that “All is Well in the Forest”….
The Alba Greenman is a serious li’l guy who might break out in a belly laugh at any moment. He’s got lush oval leaves with strong veins, very substantial… and an alert expression of steadfast watchfulness for alterations in the forest and it’s life cycles. He’ll draw the forces of nature to you and alert you of shifts and changes…One look at him, and you’ll feel a connection…and know that all is well in YOUR forest…. |
